Deference is defined as ‘humble submission and respect.’
This is when you suck it up and take parenting advice from your mother-in-law.
Or when you take direction from the boss that’s younger and less experienced than you.
No matter the differences, there are always similarities. No matter the argument, there is usually valid perspectives on both sides.
Deference is acknowledging this delta and embracing it with positivity and optimism. Forfeiting to deference shows you are more investing in learning and being kind than you are being right.
We need more of this in the world.
