Meditation is a brief interruption in our day that allows us to escape from our usual chaos. For most of us, this chaos equates to stress. This stress compounds to diminishing health.
As a society, when we think about meditation, we think of the image of a person with their eyes closed sitting with their legs crossed and hands on their legs. This doesn’t have to be how you meditate.
Meditation is whatever you want it to be. Meditation is your version of escape.
For me, I’ve found being with my children to be extremely meditative. I’ll leave my devices across the room, sprawl out on the floor, and be in the moment with my kids. In these moments, I think of nothing else and there are no distractions.
Not only does this result to more quality time with my children, but I come out of these moments feeling refreshed and invigorated. It’s become my happy place. My escape.
For you, this might be reading a novel. It could be exercising. But if you don’t have an activity that embodies such an escape, it’s time to sit down, close your eyes and sit with your legs crossed. You’ll figure it out.
But be careful. Because stressing about how hard it is for you to meditate absolutely defeats the purpose.
